In 2009 an exciting fan produced project begun...
As with all things they often start off small. Grant Foxon (a published author of “The Dark”), contacted Doomwatch.org with a short classic series story called “The Inheritors” featuring Dr. John Ridge in memory of the great Simon Oates who had recently died. Scott Burditt and Grant Foxon then decided to setup a new Doomwatch team set in the present day featuring both new characters and some old ones too!
As with all things they often start off small. These short stories feature Adam Quist, son of the original Dr. Spencer Quist. Season 1 is set as a direct continuation of the original series and picks up events from 1999 where the TV Movie ended and Doomwatch was disbanded shortly after. That is until 2010 and the Government is under pressure from an eco-terrorist group and decides to re-create the team.

The Department for Observation and Measurement of Scientific Work
Doomwatch was founded in the late 1960’s in England. This particular organisation would look at various threats ecological mainly but also social which effect the lives of the peoples in Britain.The chosen leader of Doomwatch was Dr. Spencer Quist. A scientist who is most remembered for his involvement with the Manhattan Project. Doomwatch very soon became a political hot potato in England. However they were very popular with the people and have helped a number of occasions with “incidents” that may get of hand. After a Doomwatch member Dr John Ridge, suffered a bad breakdown the Doomwatch organisation was kept on a tight reign and monitored by M.I.5 and various government bodies.In the 1980’s following the new conservative government relations between them and Doomwatch deteriorated. Doomwatch were quieted during the Falklands Conflict because certain members namely Dr Clive Sellers were considered Militant. Relations continued to breakdown and support via the public dwindled as generations had moved on. Then in 1986 Doomwatch was officially disbanded. A handful of members, including Dr John Ridge and Dr Fay Chantry, stayed with the government as part of a program of train and de-train. This was introduced to “remove the dead wood” as the government felt Doomwatch was an out-moded concept.
In 1999 an incident See File Marked 389/Sub section J4 WINTER ANGEL called for the return of Doomwatch. It led to nothing, however the Doomwatch mainframe computer system was subsequently used by environmental bodies in the government for archiving purposes. In the early nineties Dr Clive Sellers went rogue. He began gun-running in various African provinces before his capture. There was an attempt to bring him in from the cold. This didn’t work. The money he had hidden he used to fund the new eco-terrorist organisation L.C.F. They slowly became a threat. Underestimated, they murdered various scientists and members of the American government. They failed to assassinate a senator but did kill three CIA agents.
In 2009 Dr Clive Sellers had his team hack into the Doomwatch mainframe. They discovered the location of the last samples of Variant 14. This led to the reformation of Doomwatch. No-one was willing to lead Doomwatch so Dr John Ridge, liaising with M.I.5 operative David Timmons, suggested Adam Quist son of the late Dr Spencer Quist.

The "Adam Quist" DOOMWATCH cast
Adam Quist
Adam Quist has always had a fierce intelligence however he has often felt that no matter what his achievements have been, they are crushed by the shadow of his father Dr Spencer Quist. In the late 1970’s Adam moved with his recently married wife to California where he worked as a physicist on various government contracts. In the middle eighties, Adam slowly grew closer to his father despite the fact they lived in different countries. In 1990 tragedy struck and Adam lost his wife and their five year old daughter Autumn in a house fire. In 1991 Adam Quist returned to the UK, but his recent loss brought new strain on his relationship with his father and the two lost contact. Adam retreated to the countryside where he brought a cottage and did various scientific jobs mostly designed for undergraduates. He also began to drink heavily. Following Dr Spencer Quist's death in 1999 Adam did not attend the funeral. He was by this point alcohol dependant. In 2010 Dr John Ridge former member of Doomwatch got in contact with Adam Quist and Doomwatch was reformed. Adam has proven a solid leader for the new Doomwatch. Strong and pure however his unconventional methods and lack of respect for authority figures have frequently caused problems with the upper echelons of power at Whitehall and with the governments M.I.5 representative Timmons.Adam is still an alcoholic. He has tried to give up but the pain he feels inside is still too great.
Sir Nathaniel Graham MP
A Labour member for 61 years old that has strong ecological beliefs. He sought out LCF and was going to retire until Clive (a former member of Doomwatch) persuaded him to stay, as he would be more use to L.C.F there. Unlike other members he is wealthy enough not to receive payment for his work for LCF. All his political career he has tried to have certain eco laws passed and failed. A former friend of Quist. He is nearly assassinated at the end of The Plastic Rain (cliffhanger). So far he has not been used again in another story.

The only original member of Doomwatch from the 70s. He pops up from time to time to assist Adam. He had a deep respect for Adam’s father Spencer Quist. Now has adopted a similar role to Adam.

She is beautiful and very intelligent. She has been used to collect and gain new members. She has also had sexual relations with various MP’s in the UK and secretly filmed these indiscretions for the purpose of blackmail. She is a devout believer in Clive Sellers and survives to carry on the work of the L.C.F at the end of the story. Carly Whyte One of team was Clive’s closest associate and sometime lover

Doomwatch is no more. In its place an eco-terrorist organisation has risen unopposed. Its leader is a former member of the Doomwatch team and now he threatens the world with his organisation known as the L.C.F. Their extremist group is about to make its name known. Since DOOMWATCH was disbanded in 2000 this group has caused havoc worldwide. If you recognise anyone connected with this group, you must contact Sir Nathaniel Graham MP. Recent activity has led to rumours of the return of DOOMWATCH to help to counteract their terrorism.

The eco-terrorist organisation L.C.F (Liberation Conservation Front) led by former Doomwatch member Clive Sellers, have stolen the information to produce Variant 14, a plastic eating virus developed in the early 70’s. This and the actions of the L.C.F, prompt the government to reform Doomwatch, as a scape goat in case the L.C.F get to release the plastic eating virus.
A horrific crash on a London underground train, begins a new part in Adam Quists life. The son of the former head of Doomwatch (Department for the Observation and Measurement of Scientific Work) is paid a visitor by a former colleague of his fathers Dr John Ridge and asking him to assist in the formation of a new Doomwatch. Although initially indifferent Adam joins a new team. Doomwatch also liaises with M.I.5 via Security Agent Timmons. Another young recruit to the Doomwatch team is Paul Grover.
Adam discovers the dangerous new threat to our society is an eco-terrorist organisation known as the LCF (Liberation Conservation Front) headed by another former Doomwatch member Clive Sellers. The LCF mandate is a simple one they believe in the Earth is not the property of man, tired of seeing it abused they wish to put an end to the monsters of consumerism and capitalism and return the planet to a better age, regardless of the cost of human lives. Clive Sellers believes this can be achieved after he acquires Variant 14 a virus that breaks down plastics originally intended to be used a waste grounds the virus is highly contagious and after a plane crash Sellers believes he can finally bring down western society….
The L.C.F begin to kill it’s own members to protect themselves and manage to release the virus which causes havoc across London and which nearly causes a special last chance flight of Concorde to crash. However, Ridge consults the old Doomwatch files and discovers his deceased friend Toby Wren discovered away to kill the virus. Clive Sellers is tracked down to a hotel where Adam tries to convince him to join their cause. He is killed by Secret Service operatives who set the hotel on fire to cover their tracks. After the incident, Doomwatch is allowed to go on a normal.

***FOR THE EYES OF THE OPERATIONAL DIRECTOR OF DOOMWATCH ONLY***
Reports are coming in about an eco-terrorist group calling themselves the Liberation Conservation Front (L.C.F). This L.C.F recruitment video has been partially recovered from a known L.C.F sympathiser's hard disk drive. The quality is poor and out of sync, but the message is still clear. Be warned this group is very dangerous and should not be approached. We had captured an L.C.F supporter, unfortunately, two hours after his capture, the man we now know to be called Wayne Riley has been murdered and the attached files and photos were recovered from a stolen burnt out vehicle six miles from head office. As you must be aware, this is a very embarrassing situation. The L.C.F got to him before we had chance to interrogate him further. We must find out what the L.C.F are planning. We know it's going to be something big. We suspect that Clive Sellers is directly involved in a new operation and a new wave of attacks are expected. So far, we don't have much to go on, but they appear to be looking for a chemical weapon. I will send Timmons to be part of a new DOOMWATCH team. He will report directly to Sir Nathaniel Graham MP. We must discover what they are planning soon. Security is being tightened across the U.K. I will send more information to Timons as we get it. Sir Graham has ordered Ridge to locate Adam Quist to front the new organisation.

The tube station was packed at Birmingham. Mostly gangs of students in woollen hats and T-Shirts featuring The Rolling Stones in reflective materials. Arun Jones an uptight banker looked at them with distain and disgust. He wondered to himself “How many Rolling Stones albums could they really name? Could they even name any of the line-ups?”. The train pulled into Birmingham a mere three minutes late but it was packed. Arun’s heartbeat rose as he suddenly noticed an aged television actor squashed in his seat, trying to read a newspaper. Arun wanted to say hello to him, a grin all over his face spreading uncontrollably, but what with the train as over crowded as it was, it just wasn’t the right time to start a conversation with a childhood hero. He would probably make a fool of himself anyway. What is it they say? You should never meet your hero as you will always be disappointed. With all the people on board, squashed together cruelly like battery farm chickens, the train set off. It wasn’t long though, before people had begun to notice something strange was happening. A curious dripping sound was becoming more prominent. Arun looked around the carriage and could not believe what he was seeing. The plastics on the walls and the safety and promotional pictures for rail saving tickets were…dissolving? Maybe one of the teenagers had sprayed acid on them or acetone. It certainly wasn’t that hot enough on the train to melt plastic! Arun coughed. He immediately dismissed such thoughts as pointless and irrational but they still lingered. Anyway, it wasn’t his problem, he would just try to move to another seat. He was keeping an eye on the stations when he noticed the train missing all of its stops and firing straight past every station. This was wierd. What the hell was going on? It wasn’t apparent at first, but chairs suddenly began to look distorted as they melted. He had to blink twice to take it in. Panic spread along the train in the next carriage a lot of loud exclamations could be heard. The lights then went out briefly as people screamed and swore, banging on the door to the driver’s cabin. “What the hell is going on?” he said suddenly feeling the fear. The youths in the Rolling Stones T-shirts were now pathetically crying as they had been beaten to the floor by a stampede of passengers. A woman holding her baby had dropped her son in the blind panic. She screamed as its young fragile body had been crushed to death in the rush of passengers making towards the doors. Some of the passengers fainted as the train began to rock from side as whole sections of the carriages began to melt away. A cold sweat dripped down Arun’s back. People were being crushed as they banged on the drivers door. The door began to buckle under the force. The driver sat silently. Panic stricken, literally frozen in his seat in disbelief as the controls that stopped the train melted in his hands. The noise from the passengers was deafening and he was afraid to leave his seat, stricken in terror as he passed one red light, then another, then another…
One youth terrified for his life produced a knife and lashed out at nearby people to get them to move away from the doors. He lashed out at an elderly lady and sliced an artery in her arm. Blood flowed as her body fell to the floor but Darren Jenkins was getting off this train no matter who stood in his way. Soon the floor of the train was soaked in the old ladies blood. This caused even more panic and fear from the nearby passengers as they backed away from Darren. Darren flashed the blade as a warning and then tried to open the door with his bare hands as the nearby control box was now smashed, but inoperative. The button had melted and jammed. All the time the train appeared to be speeding up. The door protecting the driver finally caved in. The driver sat still, not even daring to turnaround Then, the angry and terrified mob panic stricken started to smash the windows with their bare hands to get out, screaming in terror at the sight they now saw approaching the out of control train. Suddenly, the train that was ahead of his came closer and closer. In what felt like slow motion the two trains smashed into each other and the last carriage of the train in front buckled and slipped off the tracks and down the embankment. With it, the two trains fell in unison sending the passengers who had no safety protection out of windows and onto the ceiling of the train as it tumbled down the embankment flinging them all to their deaths. Four hundred people lay dead in a heap of twisted metal and dripping plastic.

Miranda joins as a new member of Doomwatch.
Paul asks for leave to investigate a strange case of apparent vampirism in the small village of Harwick Green. The case seems simple a crazed killer but closer investigation leads Paul to discover that this simple case of a crazed would be vampire is in fact the tip of an iceberg concerning disaffected youth and the limits they will go to just to feel alive…. Paul meets a Kate a writer and a loner. The two form a close bond. The killer is young lad who suffers from bloodlust. Tracking him to an abattoir they manage to knock him out and he’s arrested.

Doomwatch are asked to check the safety on an oil rig in the North Sea. Owned by the billion dollar company Dezak Oil, off the coast of Scotland.
Preliminary reports are fine until a death happens. The workers are convinced that there is some form of sea creature that attacks the rig.
Various members of staff have heard the creature. Another attack follows and Both Adam Quist and Paul Grover hear the monster. Or do they? Workers begin to crack up under pressure as the controller refuses to let up on the drilling. Is the oilrig really under attack by some monstrous creature or is there an even deadlier explanation?…
Further investigation reveals the noise is connected with the drill head. And the fear of the sea monster is because the diagetic drill sound has been driving the workers slowly insane.

THE DAY THE BOMB FINALLY EXPLODED

All over the UK the middle class begin to revolt. In some cases working class people are murdered by them. The middle class believe they have been downtrodden long enough. Doomwatch speaks with a spokesperson for them, a Dr Matthew Spencer and they quiz him. Adam realises that they must listen and negotiate else things will get worse. A temporary cease fire is called whilst the government speaks with them. Paul also meets up with Kate and she agrees to move in with him.

In South Korea children are dying through playing so much computer games that they stop bothering to eat or sleep. The U.S asks Britain for Doomwatch to investigate this international issue. Initially, sceptical Adam realises they can be addictive. Kate discovers she is pregnant and unbeknown to Adam L.C.F members are watching his house.

IT TAKES TWO

A new condom called Synthlite is being tested in Scotland. However, after a young man is castrated seemingly by the product, Doomwatch step in. They examine the condoms and find its composition unusual and alarming. Miranda and Paul meet with Mr Lartner head of the company and find themselves unable to not like him. Adam meets with him and discovers that Mr Lartner has corrupted various skin grafting technologies and has become a symbiotic life form. Adam manages to prevent distribution of Synthlite but Mr Lartner threatens that this won’t stop him from using the technology in the future.

Doctor Faye Chantry, a former member of the original Doomwatch team, receives a visit from Paul Grover at her home. He takes a Dictaphone back to Doomwatch and discovers the details of an old Doomwatch case file called Faction 9 involving Hepatitis A being discovered in Shropshire’s water supply.

Children in various nurseries over London all become ill. All have similar symptoms. All suffer Avian Flu. How is the virus being transmitted and why is it effected some children and not others? Adam realises it’s the seagulls on the playground. Investigation at a near by rubbish tip shows that the virus is very much active there. The plays is locked down whilst it can be cleaned. Most of the children are able to recover.

A secret thinktank of logicians who are able to mathematically predict world events are attacked. Ridge raises the alarm but Adam and Timmons are sceptical. In reality they have been captured by L.C.F who want to manipulate their work for their own means.
A hitman attacks Doomwatch. The explosion kills Kate and her unborn baby and sends Eve into a coma. The method used by the assassin is curious and complicated. Miranda reasons that he wasn’t using ratiocinate logic so his actions couldn’t be predicted. Then she theories that the L.C.F must be involved. Adam turns back to drinking but Ridge rallies the troops and Timmons figures he knows more than he’s letting on. The L.C.F have resurrected an old program of bonding man and machine. Their operative Ahmed has secretly warned the government through the Mainframe computer system. He wants to lead humankind into its destiny and become the next stage of evolution. Ridge shows Paul the identity of the killer and sends him off to avenge himself.

Paul kills the assassin and then is on the run. But is captured by some other force. Whilst Lartner is revealed as one of the driving forces behind the new right wing tea party movement.

But with a rich “apprentice” in tow all is not as it appears. Ridge also manages to confront Adam Quist who agrees to tackle his drinking. And the LCF plan their endgame in the UK.

Ridge recalls a situation back in 1978 when working along side Clive Sellers. Following the suspicious death of Pope John Paul. Sellers begins to crack up and Ridge underminds him by going to Dr Spencer Quist. Sellers his forced to take sick leave and begins to work on exposing the criminal elements involved in the church.

World War 3 looms in the near future as Timmons also takes the opportunity to come out.
